2010 Year in Review: Orange County Family Portraits

Happy Tuesday, folks! 2011 has definitely started off on the right foot. Keith and I have been busy planning a few tweaks to the website. We’ve also been studying the calendar planning dates for upcoming mini-sessions (e-mail us if you’re interested in one!). We’ve also had fun taking a look back at all the family, maternity, and newborn sessions we shot last year—32 in all! We thought it would be fun to post one photo from each session. Orange County Family Photos: The L. Family

We always enjoy getting out and meeting new clients, usually at one of our regular photo-friendly locations. But once in a while we try to mix it up and find a different setting to keep things interesting.

The L. family was adventurous and willing to try something a little more rugged and edge-of-nature. Believe it or not, those areas do still exist in Orange County! We found one such spot on the border of Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills. And Tiffany and Jef were smart to schedule their brood’s session a few weeks before the summer heat wave kicked into high gear.

We knew the greenery would make for a great mother/daughter backdrop.

But we didn’t realize the rocks and sand would be great entertainment for the little guys.

We might just add this location to our list of north Orange County options for family portraits. Thanks to the L. family for such a great afternoon!

Year in Review: Oh, Canada!

What with the extra time off, the winter holidays are a perfect time to get together with relatives you may only see once a year. So last December, when we got a call from the O. Family we couldn’t say no to booking a session with them, even during our own self-imposed Christmas break. Kim and her husband live in Orange County but hail from Canada. Their extended family from British Columbia and Nova Scotia was down for the holidays, providing a very limited window to take some family portraits here in the OC.

We met the clan at Yorba Regional Park in Yorba Linda, which was a great location with a lake, bridges, and lots of greenery. The four younger girls, all under 5 years old, were adorable in their jewel-toned outfits and took the opportunity to run and play, while their older cousin did a great job of reigning everyone in (she also has fantastic grey-blue eyes). The whole group was super cute and made our job easy!

This was our last session for 2009, and it was great to end the year on such a good note! Enjoy the slideshow!

2009 Year in Review: Trash the Dress

Remember Sarah and Daniel from yesterday’s blog post? During our bridal session with them last Fall, they looked adorable sitting and strumming a guitar in the golden glow of the late afternoon sun. It’s no doubt this couple looked great on land, but how would they fare in the water? At the end of the session, these two lovebirds willingly made their way to a nearby pond. But don’t worry…if you look closely you’ll notice that Sarah didn’t wear her original wedding gown for this series of photos. Instead, she quickly changed into a wedding dress she found on Craigslist for just $40. Smart girl!

These two looked great—and kept laughing and smiling—as they inched their way into the water.

By this point in the afternoon, we started to lose light fast. But it was worth it. The reflections in the water were awesome.

And it made for a few priceless moments.

To Sarah and Daniel…thank you for being such a fun-loving couple and for being so willing to brave the water. This is one session we’ll never forget. And we’re sure it will inspire some other adventurous brides who are planning their big day, or a day-after session.

2009 Year in Review: Yorba Linda Bridal Portraits

A few days ago, we posted photos of Lisa and Jake from a group bridal session we participated in last October. Keith and I were doubly blessed that afternoon. Not only were we able to spend time with Lisa and Jake, but we also got to meet another fabulous couple—Sarah and Daniel. This young couple was full of smiles and laughs. You could instantly tell that they just enjoyed being together.

And they are talented, too! We had brought along this awesome red guitar (thanks, Dad!) as a prop. We had no idea that any of the couples we’d meet that day could actually play. But Daniel provided some fabulous music as he strummed through the session. Plus, the red added a nice punch to the photos.

2009 Year in Review: Orange County Bridal Portraits

Question: What do you get when you take a gorgeous bride and her equally handsome husband, and place them in an open field on a sunny afternoon?

Answer: You get gorgeous bridal photos of one of Orange County’s sweetest couples, Lisa and Jake.

Last Fall, Keith and I met up with a number of other local photographers for a special group photo session. The group, organized by fellow photographer, Diandra Ann, had one goal in mind—to take awesome bridal portraits of couples who craved a few extra photos to round out their wedding albums.

As luck would have it, we were paired up with Lisa and Jake. It was great to photograph these newlyweds at such a fun location—a remote trail area in Yorba Linda, CA that was full of trees, tall grass, a pond, and plenty of open space. For the session, Lisa wore her original wedding gown, while Jake opted for a more relaxed look with a vest and slacks. Their wardrobe selections were perfect—Lisa’s dress provided contrast to the location, while Jake’s earth-tone inspired outfit blended beautifully with the landscape. And let’s not forget about the details. All the brides were treated to hair, makeup, accessories, and fresh bouquets. Much thanks to these vendors for their help in pulling together the brides’ polished looks:

Sneak Peek – Orange County Bridal Session

Last Thursday, Keith and I celebrated our fourth anniversary. We celebrated all weekend with several activities including a dinner at California Pizza Kitchen, a hike through Shady Canyon, a trip to Corona del Mar to take in the annual sandcastle competition, and what had to have been the most fun—photographing a bridal session with several great couples at a gorgeous spot in Yorba Linda, CA. All the gowns, suits, and flowers were a perfect reminder of our own wedding day just four years ago. We shot a ton of photos, and I couldn’t wait to post a quick sneak peak of this cute couple. You just can’t beat how much they love each other, as well as all that gorgeous afternoon light.
