Irvine Photography Workshop

Getting behind the camera and photographing families or brides and grooms is what we do best. And we’ve been doing just that for almost five years now! Along the way we’ve learned a ton about the photo business. So it’s fun when we can actually sit down and share what we know with other up-and-coming photographers.

Recently, we had the opportunity to host a private photography workshop with Jeni Ehlert and her husband, Sean, at one of our favorite local Starbucks. We chatted for a couple hours over coffee and discussed the topics that interested them the most. It felt great to share our experiences and knowledge about building websites, SEO, marketing, etc.

After the session we headed to our favorite Irvine secret spot for a quick portrait session. Jeni’s had experience with modeling, so she was a natural in front of the lens, and she was great at coaxing Sean to take a few photos with her. Sean, thanks for being a good sport! We ended the session with some head shots of just Jeni that she can use for any of her business marketing.

Who can resist the intimacy of a backyard wedding? Last spring, Keith and I met Kaitlin and Chasen to discuss plans for their November wedding at a family home in Chino, CA. Their fun-loving personalities shined and we knew they would be a great couple to work with. Plus, their talk of a bridge over the pool and a purple candy station had us hooked. And their big day turned out perfect—casual, yet elegant. The editors over at Wedding Window thought so, too. On Monday, they featured Kaitlin and Chasen’s wedding on their blog. Mission San Juan Capistrano Family Portraits

As we gear up for another great family portrait season here in Orange County, we got to thinking about some of our favorite locations. One place we particularly enjoy is Mission San Juan Capistrano—the historic grounds make for a fantastic background for families and children. And imagine how great it would be for engagement or wedding photos!

Last spring we met the Y. Family at the mission. In tow was two-year-old Emily. Her brown dress with pink accents was the perfect choice for the rustic setting.

If you’ve never been to the mission, it has a limitless number of backgrounds. Lots of textures, cute windows, and great landscaping (especially in late spring or early summer) dot the pathways at every corner. There are even a couple of fountains with koi fish lurking just under the surface—a perfect distraction for energetic toddlers.

And let’s not forget about mom and dad. The benches at the mission are perfect for a snuggle.

If you are interested in a session at the mission, be sure to let us know. The mission is a premium location, as the venue charges a special fee for photo sessions, but that fee includes your entrance which you would owe regardless. But don’t fret…we can make all the arrangements for you. And even if you don’t want photos there, we recommend you visit at least once to enjoy the architecture and learn a little something about California’s unique history.

Orange County Family Photography: The K. Family

Ready for a little family fun? If you’ve been keeping up with our blog, you’ve noticed that over the past few weeks Keith and I have photographed several great engagement sessions. While we love our couples, we haven’t forgotten about the wonderful families we’ve met, including the K. Family. Over the past year, we’ve noticed a big trend in extended family portraits and multi-generational portrait sessions—and we couldn’t be happier about it. For us, the more the merrier.

We met up with the K. Family at our secret Irvine location. The lush landscape and golden afternoon sun set the perfect backdrop for this four-generation group. And while photographing such a big group may seem daunting, we actually had a great system in place—we allotted time to photograph the entire group, as well as smaller family groupings and individual portraits of each family member. And one of the best parts of working as a photography duo…Keith and I can split up and tag-team the smaller groupings. Yay team! Thanks so much to the K. Family. We hope you enjoy your slideshow.

Sneak Peak: Irvine Engagement Photos

The hills are alive with the sound of music! Or at least the golden glow of a million marvelous mustard flowers in full bloom. Ever since Keith and I started to see this year’s crop of mustard plants spring up in the OC, we’ve been itchin’ to meet up with a family or couple for a photo session in one of these awesome fields. And we finally got our wish! A couple weeks ago we met up with this cute duo, May and Son, in Irvine for an engagement session. And they rocked it! We especially love how their dressed up look contrasted with the fields so well. Much thanks to May and Son for such a fun afternoon wandering through Shady Canyon. Enjoy this sneak peek!

2009 Year in Review: Aliso Creek Beach Portraits

Last Fall, the beach was a popular destination for a number of our portrait clients, including fellow Orange County photographer Evangel Abrego. She and her family met us at Aliso Creek Beach for their annual family portrait. This was the first time we shot at this location, but it sure is popular with photographers—there were several groups gathered on the beach, jostling for position. And we can see why…plenty of white sand, fun rock outcroppings, and blue ocean out at far as the eye can see.

The Abrego boys seemed to enjoy themselves as well. They ran up to and away from the surfline, kicked around the sand, slid down the sand hill, and even teamed up to dig their way through the remnants of a sand castle. They were adorable and the whole family was great to work with. Need proof? Just view the slideshow to see more from the fun morning we spent with them.

2009 Year in Review: Heat Wave

Remember this adorable guy? Last September, we kicked off our Fall portrait season with a session for this awesome family vacationing from New York. The location was Laguna Beach, but the cool ocean water was no match for the heat wave that blasted through Orange County that weekend. Despite the blistering temps, the entire family, including little Max, were champs and we got several great shots. In fact, we even turned one of them into a 16″x20″ canvas. We’ll soon be updating our website with photos of the great products we’re offering for 2010, including canvases and custom albums. Stay tuned for the details…you’ll want to order one after your next session.

2009 Year in Review: The More the Merrier

Keith and I are used to shooting large groups. We get requests to photograph extended families quite a bit, especially around the holidays. But last summer, we received a special request to photograph three friends and their kiddos. Except for the scorching weather that morning (yes, about 90 degrees at 10 a.m.!) the session went well. We were lucky to photograph seven great kids and their folks at our secret Irvine location. In fact, you might remember their adorable faces from the sneak peak we posted right after the session. It’s only fitting to follow that we follow that up with this slideshow. Much thanks to the B., P., and G. Families!

April + Matt: Something to Jump About

April and Matt got married just a few short hours ago. We just finished downloading all the images. While going through them, this one jumped out at us. It pretty much sums up the festivities for the day: fun, eclectic, colorful, and not to mention full of good friends, family, and most importantly, love. Congratulations April and Matt! 2008 Year in Review – Fall Family Portrait Session

We love the fall! Autumn is always our busiest season—and for good reason. A number of families book in the fall to get their annual family portrait taken for their Christmas cards, including the P. family, who we photographed last November. We knew it would be a fabulous session as soon as they arrived for their shoot. Chase was excited to see the jungle gym at the park and Keith had a fun time following him around while I stayed behind and took photos of his adorable little sister Molly. We also loved the interaction between Lesley, Greg, and the kids. There’s a lot of love in this family and it shows. Thank you to the P. family for such a fun morning.
