Crescent Bay, Laguna Beach Family Portraits

Palm trees? Check! Sand? Check! A cute family of three and their adorable pooches? Check and check!!

For this family portrait session, Keith and I got to explore some new territory: Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach. The C. Family suggested the location to us—it was spot for their first date. And after visiting the beach we can understand why they are drawn to this particular spot—it’s got a great stretch of sand, some cute stonework, and an awesome view of the palm-tree dotted cliffs in the distance. Here’s proof:

This three-year-old guy was adorable and a ham in front of the lens.

As the sun started to sink, it’s romantic orange rays hit the sand just right so we grabbed a few shots of just mom and dad.

And let’s not forget about the other two members of this family—Boo and Ollie.

2009 Year in Review: Laguna Beach’s Top Secret Spot

Last Fall, Keith and I discovered this hidden gem in Laguna Beach—a public stretch of sand with few people, a great view to watch the sunset, and a castle! But what good is a castle without a princess? To solve that problem, the K. Family, with their adorable little princess Emily, were our first clients willing to make the short trek with us to check out this awesome location.

Emily loved digging in the sand and walking with her parents along the shore. And what about Emily’s awesome dress? The blues in her outfit contrasted well with the sand and gave the photos a pleasing punch for her portrait shots. We were particularly lucky with the weather that afternoon, too. The lack of cloud cover let us take advantage of the sun’s warm afternoon glow. We can’t thank the K. Family enough for being so willing to try a new location with us. It’s a spot we’ll definitely visit again.

2009 Year in Review: Heat Wave

Remember this adorable guy? Last September, we kicked off our Fall portrait season with a session for this awesome family vacationing from New York. The location was Laguna Beach, but the cool ocean water was no match for the heat wave that blasted through Orange County that weekend. Despite the blistering temps, the entire family, including little Max, were champs and we got several great shots. In fact, we even turned one of them into a 16″x20″ canvas. We’ll soon be updating our website with photos of the great products we’re offering for 2010, including canvases and custom albums. 2009 Year in Review: Hit the Beach

It’s not everyday that four generations of one family are able to come together, especially when they are scattered all over the country. But last January, the timing was perfect for the R. Family when everyone made it to Southern California. To celebrate, a beach portrait session was in order. The weather was perfect for our late morning trip to Laguna Beach along the shore near the Montage Resort. In our experience as family photographers, we’ve learned that the surf and sand almost always produces a fun atmosphere to capture great candid shots as well as relaxed portraits perfect for any mantle.

We sure lucked out on some gorgeous weather this weekend, especially compared to today’s rain. To combat those gray skies we offer you a couple bright smiles from one of this weekend’s family portrait sessions. We photographed the K. Family at our secret location in Laguna Beach. Recognize the “castle” in the background? The late afternoon sunlight was gorgeous. And Toni and Jeff picked an adorable outfit for their little one to wear. The blues and reds in her dress contrasted perfectly with the color of the sand. I can’t wait to finish editing this session, as well as the others from this weekend.

Laguna Beach Sunset

A castle? In Laguna Beach? You betcha! Well, sort of. A few weeks ago Keith and I heard about a castle-like building overlooking the coast in Laguna. Since the weather was so nice yesterday, we thought it was the perfect chance to head to the beach and look for this unique landmark. After scurrying across PCH, we trekked down a steep driveway, followed by an even steeper step of stairs, and made our way around a cliff to finally discover this gem:

The adventure was totally worth it! It’s not everyday we see such unique architecture in Orange County. We learned that this castle-like turret was once used as a staircase to provide access from the top of the cliff to the shoreline. If the tide wasn’t so high, we would have taken a closer look at the stucture, but the view we did get was pretty gorgeous. The sunset wasn’t too shabby either. Even with the clouds and fog rolling in, we got a quick peek at the sun before it dipped below the horizon.

Sneak Peek: Laguna Beach Family Portrait

Heat wave. For those of you in Southern California, we’re sure you’re all too familiar with that phrase. The summer sun has been heating up all of Orange County, even the beach cities. We were surprised how warm it was in Laguna Beach yesterday morning when we met up with this adorable family from New York and a number of their extended relatives for a family portrait session. We spent some time taking pictures along the Laguna shore before retreating into the Montage Resort to take advantage of the air conditioning. The comfort from the hotel was refreshing. And the smile on this little guy’s face is proof of the welcome break from the warm weather.

Family Portraits: Laguna Beach

Keith and I love family get-togethers. It’s especially fun when we get the WHOLE family together for a shoot, so imagine how exciting it was to see four generations of this family come together for a shoot! The R. family asked us to take a family portrait on the beach during a small window when everyone was in town (grandma was snowbirding from the east coast, and one of the brothers was visiting from Colorado).

It turned out to be a beautiful day for photography in south Orange County; we met in Laguna Beach, where we found some flower beds that just scream “take your picture with me!” Which we did. We headed down to the sand where the kids took advantage of the pristine beach and ran right up to the water. Someone had the great idea to bring some chairs and a sheet which we repurposed to create a portable studio right on the beach.

This is the first family to ask for photos on the beach, but I doubt it will be the last. I think the photos prove why everyone loves southern California. Just another postcard-perfect moment in south OC!
