2009 Year in Review: Halloween Party Photos

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! No, it’s not a recap of the wonderful Wizard of Oz of our youth. It’s a selection of costumed beasts and characters from the W. Family’s annual Halloween party in Whittier. As we mentioned last year, Dina’s favorite holiday is Halloween. She enjoys the decorations, the costumes, the treats, and the excuse to get family and friends together. And boy does the W. Family know how to party!

It starts off with a bouncy house, then some pizza and a variety of tasty treats before the annual costume parade. The evening ends with a piñata—this year it was a green witch to match Dina’s own costume. The W. Family goes all-out with decorations in the yard including a faux graveyard, big spiderwebs, and tons of Halloween-themed decorations throughout the living room. We particularly enjoy the little Halloween town, which is put together much like a traditional Christmas village.

We love this family! Not only are they fun to photograph, they’re also just really nice people. Thank you to Dina and Ryan for letting us share in the fun again.

2009 Year in Review: It’s All About the Details

Butterflies, and cakes, and balloons! Oh, my! Last January we started the year off right by photographing Ella’s first birthday party. You may remember the adorable pink butterfly cake her family ordered to celebrate the big day. But it wasn’t just the cake that caught our attention. The balloons, flowers, food, and favors for the guests were all details that added up to create a very memorable afternoon.

Keith and I were thrilled to be able to capture all of these details (and photos of the guests, of course!) for Ella’s family. During big events like birthday parties, parents are so busy putting out food and attending to the kids and guests that they aren’t always able to remember to take photos of everything—or everyone—throughout the day. And that’s where we can help! Keith and I love parties. Whether it’s a first birthday, family reunion, or surprise party, we can help capture the event. Just give us a ring or send us a note.

Ella’s First Birthday – Party Photos

A couple weeks ago we teased you with a sneak peek from baby Ella’s first birthday celebration. But sharing only two photos from such an amazing party just won’t do. It’s only fair to present a few more from Ella’s big day.

As you can tell, Ella made a fine model—she looks particularly adorable in her traditional Korean birthday outfit. Look at those colors! Part of the fun of our job is capturing all the little moments and objects the family took so long to put together, like the cake, food, balloons, and other decorations. It’s always fun to see how different families celebrate milestones and it seems the decorations help tell the story. In this case, the colorful butterfly-themed decor for Ella’s party definitely put a smile on our faces.

2008 Year in Review – Party Animal

You probably remember Logan from his two-year portrait session we shot last October. Well, in November we finally got to help the little guy celebrate his big day. His shindig takes the phrase “party animal” to a whole new level thanks to the awesome decorations and desserts his parents planned for his zoo-themed party. Keith and I were especially impressed with the lion and monkey cupcakes his mom, grandmother, and aunt spent so many hours to bake and decorate. And his dad had an equally cute table decoration idea—zoo animal Beanie Babies that guests were allowed to take home as favors. What a cute idea! Happy Birthday, Logan!

2008 Year in Review – Halloween Bash

We met Ryan and Dina through some long-time friends, and boy does Dina know how to throw a Halloween party! It’s bigger than Christmas at their house and it’s definitely the most fun we have all year. For the second year running she asked us to come along to capture the festivities, and that reminds us how much we enjoy handling event photography in Orange County—especially when someone else is handling all the details!

And Dina is good on the details. This year she brought in a monster bounce-house with a slide, and the kids made good use of it. There was lots of good food, and even the desserts looked (and tasted) great. Everyone wears a costume, and all the kids get to whack the pinata. Candy for everyone! And let’s not forget the awesome miniature Halloween village that Dina sets up every year, complete with buildings, lights, witches, and ghosts.

Ryan and Dina’s son Blake was especially cute with his strongman Marine outfit. We’ve shot him before and he’s always a good sport, plus he’s such a handsome little guy!

All in all we enjoyed spending the afternoon with W. family—they’re very friendly and hospitable, and their Halloween party is an awesome event every year. We were so excited to be a part of it.

2008 Year in Review – Luke’s First Birthday Party

Last July, we teased you with a couple of sneak peek photos from Luke’s first birthday party. Well, we think it’s about time to post a few more to prove what a fabulous party it actually was. Luke’s parents Eunice and John did a fabulous job paying attention to all the details. The decorations, cake, and food were amazing, and so was the entertainment. As I mentioned before, the face painting was provided by Risa from Colorful Face Art. Risa is an extremely talented artist and the kids were proud to show off their new artwork. And if that wasn’t enough, balloon animal artist Annie Banannie was on hand and gave the kids quite a show. Her finale was top notch—she climbed into a giant six-foot balloon!

Sneak Peek – Butterfly Birthday Bash

Keith and I love to photograph children’s birthday parties. From the decorations, to the food, to the fun-loving people, they are always a blast. And yesterday was no exception.
