Are you smitten for autumn?

Keith and I LOVE the fall. That’s why we were married in October (we’re coming up on four years this October 1). There’s just something exciting about the changing of the leaves, the cooling of the weather (unless the Santa Ana winds are blowing!) and the general awesomeness that is southern California during that short time between summer and winter.

To celebrate the new season—today is the first day of fall—we thought we’d hold a contest, so we’re asking you: What is your favorite part of fall?

It’s simple to enter. Just leave comment in the box below between now and September 30. One lucky person will be chosen at random to win a $10 gift card to Starbucks. This is your chance to get your hands on their fantastic pumpkin spice latte! And feel free to tell your friends to enter. If they win, they can share the prize and treat you to a cup o’ joe.

We look forward to your responses. Happy autumn!

EDIT TO ADD: September 30, 2009

Thanks to all who took the time to comment!  We have a winner!!!  Congratulations to DinaMeri!  Your gift card is on its way.  Enjoy!

April Bailey - I love autumn days in Southern California when I can wear shorts, a sweatshirt, and flip-flops; go to Oak Glen for a half-bushel of freshly picked apples; and go to Claremont’s Village Venture arts and crafts fair in October to shop, eat warm cinnamony candied almonds, listen to cool music in front of the iconic Folk Music Center (owned by Ben Harper), and watch dozens of little ones dressed up in their cute Halloween costumes parade through the village.

Allen - Mmmmm…pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks sounds good, but I’m quite partial to their hot chocolate on a brisk fall morning.

September 27, 2009 - 7:25 PM

Alex - Pumpkin Bread, hands down, without a doubt, loooooove me some yummy warm pumpkin bread with a big ole’ slab of butter :)

September 27, 2009 - 9:14 AM

Ann - Candy corn!!! And when the weather cools down, it’s always fun to break out the crock pot and make a stew or soup.

September 26, 2009 - 8:09 AM

Kae - Each year at this time love getting a start on making Halloween costumes for the kids. This year my oldest wants to be a princess while the youngest wants to be a fireman.

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 AM

Rick - That’s easy…apple picking in Oak Glen! Riley’s Farm is a great place to take the kids and pick fruit right off the tree. I think they even have a u-pick pumpkin patch, too.

September 24, 2009 - 6:50 AM

Stephen - Favorite part of fall?: The World Series! Here’s to hoping the Angels do well in the post season this year.

September 23, 2009 - 7:09 AM

Jean - Pumpkin pie! Definitely the pumpkin pie! I saw one at the market just the other night and was so tempted to add it to my cart.

Becka @Studio222 Photography - OMG I literally count down the days until the Pumpkin Latte comes back into Starbucks! HAHA. I’ve been there almost every day since they brought it back. It’s sad really, but oh soooooo delicious!

Nate and I are getting married next October (2010). We first realized we had feelings for each other on October 24th so this month is special to us. Every time the weather starts to barely shift from hot to cool I am flooded with those butterflies and memories of the beginning of our love. :)

DinaMeri - Fall brings on a sense of nostalgia, of my childood; going back to school, the excitement of Halloween, Thanksgiving and my birthday. The beautiful colors and decorations everywhere (especially my own home!). Caramel apples, candy corn, Halloween songs and spooky stories. Julian, Oak Glen and anywhere the air is crisp, to pick pumpkins and apples. This is the most magical time of the year!

September 22, 2009 - 10:47 AM

Michelle Kissel - When autumn hits I love that the cool nights are here when no air conditioning or heater is needed to enjoy the temperature. I also love pulling out the big box of decorations from the attic and enjoying all the fall colors inside the house too! Come over and see how autumn looks indoors, until after Thanksgiving when it’ll be time for Christmas.

September 22, 2009 - 9:40 AM

Lynn - Halloween is near the top of my Fall list. But better than that is our family’s annual tradition of making homemade candied apples.

September 22, 2009 - 8:33 AM

Rebecca - I love the early sunsets!
